"What's Going On" was an inspiration by Four Tops singer Obie Benson, which witnessed police oppression committed on Vietnam anti-war protestors.  Benson told Motown song writer, Al Cleveland about the incident wondering 'what was going on.'  Cleveland penned the song and offered it to the Four Tops, which rejected it because it was a protest song.  Cleveland later offered it to Marvin Gaye, which tweaked it and released it under Barry Gordy's protest.

The classic Temptations existed of:  Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin, Otis Williams and Paul Williams.  The only surviving member as of March 2021 is Otis Williams.

Holland-Dozier-Holland (Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland) penned some of the greatest Motown hits, primarily for the Supremes and the Four Tops.

The O'Jays were part of Gamble and Huff and their Philadelphia International label.  Eddie Levert's son, Gerald would later have a solo career.

The 1970 Motown hit "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" was recorded by Stevie Wonder.

Diane Ross would become the lead singer for the Supremes.  She would also cast the lead for Barry Gordy's 1975 movie Mahogany.

David Ruffin and Barbara Gail Martin were a dating couple in 1968.

Penned by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong, Cloud 9 earned Motown its first Grammy award.  Whitfield and Strong would write and produce the majority of the Temptations' songs.

Barry Gordy hired Stevie Wonder for his harmonica playing, but not for his singing.
