The song describes his mother's spiritual travel around the cosmos in the after life.

The Hebrew name for God is Yahweh, which was shortened to Yah. At .58 in the video clip, Ingram is shown praying and singing, "Heavenly Father watchin' us fall."

Although the title was taken from Kahlil Gibran's novel Broken Wings, the song was written to contain metaphors about a broken relationship with God. "Broken wings" is the fall of a spiritual person - "voices sing" are angels and the "book of love" is the bible.
