The 1979 Mustang 2.3L was the first in which a turbo charged engine was used.  Using a Garrett unit, the Mustang generated 118 horsepower.  The Mustang SVO took the Mustang to new turbo charging levels when it appeared in 1984.

After the Mustang GT was discontinued in 1969, it didn't reappear again until the 1982 model when it replaced the 1979-1981 Cobra model.

The Mustang was available with front dual piston brake calipers when in was introduced in 1965.  1967 would mark the last year four piston calipers were used in the Mustang's first generation.

While the all-new SN95 Mustang appeared in 1994, it wasn't until 1996 that the 4.6L engine found its was into the Mustang and Mustang Cobra.

The 1972 351 'R-code' was the last year in which the Mustang would use a mechanical camshaft V8 engine.

The first Mustang 5.0L to use a 4V carburetor was the 1968  'J-Code.'  Ford used the 'J-Code' in the 1968 model year only and was available in any Mustang body style and was also used in the 1968 Shelby GT350.  The only other first generation Mustang to use a 5.0L-4V was the 1969-1970 Mustang Boss 302.

The first Mustang to wear the SVT badge was the 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra.

The 1965 Shelby GT350 was the first Mustang to eclipse the 300-horsepower mark.  Based on the 271-horsepower '289K,' the 1965 GT350 used an aluminum intake manifold topped off with a 715 CFM Holley carburetor, which yielded 306 horses.  This engine would also be used in the 1966 and 1967 Shelby GT350s.

After the Mustang convertible was discontinued after the 1973 model year, it didn't appear again until the 1983 model year.

The first model year for the Mustang to hit 500 horsepower was in 2007 when the 5.4L DOHC was dropped into the GT500.  The 2007 Shelby's 500 horsepower was eclipsed in 2008 when the GT500KR featured 540 horsepower.
